Media and Civil Society Public Union (MCS PU)

Media and Civil Society Public Union was established on 12 December 2005 and was state registered in 28 December 2005. Founders of the organization are Khanoglan Ahmedov (Ilkkhabar.org), Rasul Hashimov (Avropa.info) and Galib Mammadli (‘Express’ newspaper).

The main scope of activities of MCS PU are to contribute to the development of journalism and journalists, to expand cooperation, to protect the rights of journalists and to study experiences of developed countries in the sphere of journalistic research. Other principle objectives include offering assistance in solving the problems of journalists and media representatives, as well as labour rights of journalists, and promoting freedom of expression.

Some of the last projects of MCS PU includes “Civil society institutions strengthening public relations” (2013), “Public discussion of the use of Azerbaijani language problems in modern information society” (2014), “Educational activities for enhancement of the reviewing citizens applications in Southern regions” (2015), “Educational activities towards fight against religious radicalism of youth in Northern regions” (2016).

These projects were financed by the Council of State Support to Non-governmental Organizations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
MCS PU are member of several international coalitions and partnerships including Azerbaijan National NGO Forum, Azerbaijan Press Council, Information and Cooperation Network of NGO’s acting in the field of combating corruption, Open Government Initiative Government-Civil Society Dialogue Platform.

Khanoglan Ahmadov

Khanoglan Ahmadov joined Open Government Platform in September 2016. He is founder and head of the Media and Civil Society Public Union, which was established in 2005. He is also founder and editor-in-chief of the “ilkxeber.org” news portal. He worked at the “Ekspress” newspaper as a correspondent in 1999 and during 2008-2016. Prior to it, he was editor-in-chief at the “Geopolitics XXI asr” newspaper from 2004 to 2008. Mr. Ahmadov started his career as a librarian in Yardimli Central Library.
