Oil Worker’s Rights Protection Organization

Oil-Workers Rights Protection Organization (OWRPO) was established in 1996 by a group of specialist working in oil sector in order to protect human rights working in oil and gas sector of Azerbaijan and to create control of civil societies over the project implemented in the energy sector of the country. (From its establishment OWRPO implemented number of projects and programs and gained achievements. Main activities of the organization are the followings:

– Public control-monitoring, research

– Protection of human rights, legal assistance, awareness

– Lobbyism

– Work with community in the regions, to make more active community members

– Use of mass media-public awareness

Activity directions of the organization:

  4. Public control over huge projects and the projects funded by International Financial Institutions and monitoring conduction; Monitoring IFI’s activities in Azerbaijan:

OWRPO is active member of various international and local networks created by the civil society organizations, as well as departments of international networks on Azerbaijan, and intends to join new networks and coalitions in order to increase institutional development and fundraising opportunities.

OWRPO fights for the protection of human rights in energy sector, use of financial flows related with energy sector for the benefit of the society and organization of public control in this field.

Mirvari Gahramanli

 Mirvari Gahramanli joined Open Government Platform in September 2016. Alongside being member of the Platform, she is currently chairperson of Oil Workers’ Rights Protection Organization and holds this position since 1996.

Mrs.Gahramanli started her career at SOCAR in 1976 and worked there until 2002.

She was deputy in chief of Communication Department at SOCAR from 1995 till 2002. Prior to it, she worked there as a chief of Oil and Gas Extraction department. During 1992-1994, Mrs. Gahramanli was deputy in chief of Azerneft Head Department. Before working in this position she was Caspian trust-chairperson of United Trade Unions for six years. Mrs. Gahramanli started working at SOCAR as a chief engineer in 1976 and worked in this position for ten years. She was a coordinator of about 30 projects implemented by Oil Workers Rights Protecting Organization and has participated in many international conferences.

Mrs.Gahramanli holds a Bachelor’s degree from University of Oil and Chemistry (current Azerbaijan State Oil Academy).
